Giants' Darren Waller, 31, Announces Retirement After One Season, Team Gains $11.6M Cap Savings
Jun 9, 2024, 07:47 PM
New York Giants tight end Darren Waller has informed the team that he plans to retire, according to sources. Waller, aged 31, has not attended offseason workouts and had been contemplating retirement for months. His decision comes after just one season with the Giants. The team will gain $11.6 million in cap savings but will incur $2.5 million in dead money this year and $4.9 million in 2025. Waller's retirement marks the end of an eight-season NFL career, during which he was one of three tight ends in NFL history to record back-to-back seasons with over 1,100 receiving yards. Waller was one of the best signings of Jon Gruden's second tenure with the Raiders.
