Harvey Weinstein Faces New Allegations in New York as Prosecutors Seek New Indictment Ahead of November Retrial
Jul 9, 2024, 04:31 PM
Harvey Weinstein appeared in Manhattan criminal court on Tuesday as New York prosecutors announced they are investigating additional violent sexual assaults allegedly committed by the disgraced former movie mogul. The court hearing, which follows the overturning of Weinstein's 2020 conviction in April, focused on the possibility of new accusers testifying in an anticipated retrial set for November. Manhattan’s Assistant District Attorney, Nicole Blumberg, indicated that several women who were not ready to speak up during the initial trial may come forward. Prosecutors stated their intention to seek a new indictment based on these new allegations of rape and sexual abuse. Weinstein's legal team criticized the prosecutors for delays in bringing new charges. Weinstein, who was previously sentenced to 16 years following a separate rape trial in California, remains in jail.
