Netflix's Ad Tier Doubles to 70 Million Users; Sells Out NFL Christmas Game Ads
Nov 12, 2024, 02:04 PM
Netflix Inc.'s ad-supported tier has reached 70 million monthly active users globally, nearly doubling since May when it had 40 million users, according to company statements. The streaming giant launched its ad-supported service two years ago and has seen significant growth, with user numbers increasing from 22 million in January to the current 70 million. More than half of new sign-ups in countries where the ad plan is available are opting for the ad-supported tier. Netflix is also producing live programs, including its upcoming NFL Christmas Day game for which it has sold out all advertising slots, partnering with advertisers such as FanDuel and Verizon. Netflix's growth in the ad-supported market and its move into live programming highlight the shifting dynamics in the streaming industry as companies vie for market share by offering lower-priced, ad-supported options and live content to attract customers.
