Netflix announced that its advertising-supported subscription plan has reached 40 million monthly active users globally. This marks a significant increase from 23 million users in January, representing an eightfold growth over the past year. Additionally, Netflix revealed plans to launch its own in-house advertising technology platform, ending its partnership with Microsoft for ad tech. The ad-supported tier now accounts for about 15% of Netflix's total subscribers, with 40% of new members opting for the ad tier. The company aims to implement the new ad tech platform by the end of 2025. The service is available in 12 countries and the announcement was made at Netflix's VIP Upfront.
