Navajo Nation Halts Energy Fuels' Uranium Transport, Citing Sovereignty
Jul 30, 2024, 08:08 PM
The Navajo Nation has taken decisive action to halt the transportation of uranium across its reservation. President Buu Nygren deployed Navajo Police to stop the illegal transport by Energy Fuels, citing a lack of notification as a blatant disregard for tribal sovereignty. The tribe, which banned the transportation of uranium on its land in 2012, planned to test this law as a truck carrying uranium ore was ordered to stop on Tuesday. The police were instructed to escort the transport vehicles off the land. The reservation extends into Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah.
