Netflix has agreed to a unique release strategy for Greta Gerwig's upcoming big-budget adaptation of C.S. Lewis's 'The Chronicles of Narnia,' marking a significant shift in the streamer's approach to theatrical distribution. The film will premiere exclusively on approximately 1,000 IMAX screens worldwide on Thanksgiving Day 2026, before streaming on Netflix starting Christmas Day 2026. This deal, described as a precedent-setting deal, includes a two-week exclusive IMAX run across 90 countries, with a potential four-week window of global exclusivity. Gerwig, leveraging her success with 'Barbie,' negotiated this arrangement, which also involves shooting the film with both IMAX and regular cameras this year.
