Chelsea's Mudryk Faces Up to Four-Year Ban After £88.5M Star Tests Positive for Meldonium
Dec 17, 2024, 11:19 AM
Chelsea forward Mykhailo Mudryk has been provisionally suspended from football after testing positive for the banned substance meldonium in a routine urine test conducted by the Football Association (FA). The 23-year-old Ukrainian player, who joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk for a fee that could reach £88.5 million, denies any intentional use of banned substances. The positive test occurred while Mudryk was on international duty in late October, and he is currently awaiting the results of a secondary 'B' sample test. Chelsea and Mudryk are working with the relevant authorities to determine the cause of the adverse finding. If the 'B' sample confirms the initial result, Mudryk could face a ban of up to four years, a significant blow to his career and Chelsea's investment.
