Israeli Businessman Moti Maman Arrested for Alleged Iran-Backed Plot to Kill Netanyahu, Gallant
Sep 19, 2024, 09:43 AM
Israeli authorities have arrested Moti Maman, a 73-year-old Israeli businessman from Ashkelon, on suspicion of being recruited by Iran to assassinate top Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Shin Bet Director Ronen Bar. Maman, who had been living in Turkey, was reportedly smuggled into Iran twice to meet with Iranian intelligence officers. The plot was uncovered through a joint investigation by the Israeli Security Service (Shin Bet) and the Israeli Police in August. Maman allegedly demanded $1 million for the assassination plot. Israeli security services have emphasized that the Iranian threat remains ongoing.
