Microsoft Overhauls Controversial Recall Feature with Enhanced Security and Privacy on Copilot+ PCs

Microsoft has announced significant updates to its controversial AI-powered Recall feature, which creates a record of user activity on PCs. In response to privacy concerns, the company has made Recall more secure by encrypting stored data and requiring Windows Hello for access. Additionally, users can now opt out of and completely uninstall the feature. The updated Recall will filter out sensitive information like passwords and store data in a virtualization-based security enclave. These changes aim to address criticisms that the tool was a privacy nightmare and an attractive target for hackers. The revamped Recall will be available for Windows Insider Program members in October, exclusively on Copilot+ PCs.
