VisitSouth Africa Uses Radioactive Isotopes, Removes Over 1,000 Horns to Combat Rhino Poaching
Aug 1, 2024, 12:05 PM
A pioneering project in Sudáfrica aims to combat rhino poaching by incorporating radioactive isotopes into rhino horns. Researchers have injected radioactive material into the horns of 20 rhinos to deter poachers. Additionally, park staff have removed the horns of más de 1,000 rhinos in a reserve targeted by poachers, leading to a significant decrease in illegal rhino killings in May and June. This innovative approach is part of broader efforts to protect rhinos from being hunted for their horns, which are sold to buyers in East Asia.
