Biden to Sign Executive Order Tuesday to Tighten US-Mexico Border Controls, Limit Asylum at 2,500 Crossings
Jun 3, 2024, 03:47 PM
President Joe Biden is expected to sign an executive order early next week aimed at tightening measures at the U.S.-Mexico border. According to sources familiar with the plan, the order will allow the government to temporarily seal the border and deny asylum requests when the number of daily crossings exceeds 2,500. The border will remain closed to asylum seekers until the daily crossings drop to 1,500. This executive action represents one of the most restrictive border policies instituted by a modern Democratic president. The order will also enable the quick deportation of migrants who cross the border illegally.
