Nov 18, 2024, 01:22 PM
Democratic U.S. Representative Mikie Sherrill has announced her candidacy for Governor of New Jersey in the 2025 election. A Navy veteran and former helicopter commander, Sherrill was first elected to the U.S. House in 2018, representing New Jersey's 11th District. In her announcement, Sherrill stated, 'In the Navy, I was on a mission to protect our country. Now, I’m announcing my candidacy for governor on a mission to get things done for New Jersey.' Her campaign emphasizes leadership experience and a mission to improve the state's economy and affordability. EMILY's List, a national group that backs Democratic women running for office, has endorsed her bid. Sherrill aims to become New Jersey's first female governor in over two decades since Christine Todd Whitman.
