MicroStrategy Plans $2 Billion Capital Raise to Buy More Bitcoin, as BlackRock's IBIT Acquires $596.1M in BTC

MicroStrategy Inc. has announced plans to raise $2 billion through the issuance of preferred stock, with the intention of using the funds to purchase more Bitcoin. The company currently holds 447,470 BTC, having added 258,320 BTC in 2024 at an average price of approximately $85,000 per BTC. MicroStrategy's strategy includes a long-term goal dubbed the '21/21 Plan', aiming to raise $42 billion to acquire additional Bitcoin. Meanwhile, BlackRock Inc. and MicroStrategy together now hold 1,000,593 BTC, valued at nearly $100 billion. On January 7, 2025, BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) purchased 5,830 BTC worth $596.1 million. Michael Saylor, MicroStrategy's executive chairman, forecasts Bitcoin reaching $13 million by 2045.
