Microsoft Overhauls AI Recall Feature with Opt-In and Uninstall Options
Oct 1, 2024, 02:00 PM
Microsoft has announced significant updates to its controversial AI-powered Recall feature, which records user activities on PCs. The updates focus on enhancing security and privacy, addressing previous criticisms that the tool was vulnerable to hackers. Key changes include making the feature opt-in, allowing users to uninstall it, and storing data in an encrypted VBS Enclave. Sensitive information such as passwords will be automatically filtered out. The overhaul also includes virtualization-based security, Windows Hello authentication, and the feature will be available to Windows Insider Program members in October. David Weston, head of enterprise and OS security at Microsoft, elaborated on these changes. These updates will be exclusive to Copilot+ PCs.
