Micron Technology Inc. has initiated construction on a new $7 billion advanced chip packaging facility in Singapore, located in Woodlands, aimed at producing high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips to meet the increasing demand driven by the artificial intelligence (AI) sector, particularly for AI data centers. The facility, the first of its kind in Singapore, is set to begin operations in 2026 and will reach full capacity by 2027. The investment, amounting to S$9.5 billion, is expected to create an initial 1,400 jobs, with plans to expand to 3,000 jobs in the future. Sanjay Mehrotra, president and CEO of Micron, emphasized the growing need for advanced memory solutions as AI adoption expands across industries. The project is supported by the Singapore government and is part of Micron's broader strategy to enhance its global manufacturing footprint.
