Miami-Dade Elections Worker Fired After Sealed Early Voting Ballots Fell Off Unsecured Truck
Oct 29, 2024, 04:47 PM
A Miami-Dade elections worker was fired after a sealed bin and sealed bag of ballots from early voting fell off a truck and were discovered on the side of the road in Cutler Bay, Florida, near the South Dade Government Center. The incident occurred near exit 11 of the Florida Turnpike at the intersection of 211th Street. The ballots were found by a passing driver who took them to the police station, where they were properly secured. The Miami-Dade Elections Department attributed the incident to 'human error,' as the worker forgot to lock the back of the truck, allowing the ballots to fall out. The department emphasized that the ballots had already been scanned and counted and that there was no evidence of tampering. The worker was terminated immediately, and the department reiterated its commitment to 'zero tolerance' for such incidents.
