Microsoft Acquires 485,000 Nvidia Hopper GPUs in 2024, Outpacing Rivals

In 2024, Microsoft Corp. has significantly outpaced its tech rivals in the acquisition of Nvidia Corp.'s AI chips, purchasing 485,000 Hopper GPUs. This acquisition is nearly double the number of chips bought by Meta Platforms Inc., which acquired 224,000 Hopper GPUs. Other competitors such as ByteDance and Tencent Holdings Ltd. each bought around 230,000 chips, while Tesla Inc. and xAI Corp. purchased approximately 200,000. Microsoft's aggressive procurement of Nvidia's most advanced chips has given it a competitive edge in the race to develop advanced AI systems, as demand for these chips continues to outstrip supply.
