Apple and Meta Set to Face EU Charges Under Digital Markets Act
Jun 14, 2024, 05:11 PM
Apple is set to become the first major technology company to face charges under the European Union's Digital Markets Act (DMA), according to the Financial Times. The charges, expected to be issued before the summer break, relate to Apple's anti-steering rules for developers, which the EU has determined do not comply with the DMA. Reports indicate that the EU is planning to fine Apple for these violations, marking the first-ever fine of a company under the DMA, specifically over anti-steering measures in the App Store. Additionally, Meta Platforms is also expected to face charges under the same EU tech rules, specifically regarding its pay or consent model for Facebook and Instagram.
