South Korea Considers EV Battery Disclosure After Mercedes-Benz Fire
Aug 7, 2024, 05:11 PM
South Korea is grappling with safety concerns following a fire involving an unplugged electric Mercedes-Benz sedan in an underground carpark in Incheon. The incident, which occurred last Thursday, led to the evacuation of over 200 families due to power outages caused by the blaze. In response to the growing number of lithium-ion fires, there are increasing calls for mandatory disclosure of electric vehicle (EV) battery information. The South Korean government is considering requiring EV manufacturers to provide detailed battery data to mitigate risks and enhance safety. Offices and apartment buildings are also exploring measures to minimize the threat of such fires.
