FIA Requests McLaren to Modify Controversial 'Mini-DRS' Rear Wing Design from Baku GP
Sep 20, 2024, 11:28 AM
The FIA is considering taking action over flexi rear wings in Formula 1 following the controversy generated by McLaren's 'mini-DRS' rear wing design. Despite McLaren's rear wing passing all FIA deflection tests and being deemed compliant with regulations, the FIA has requested McLaren to modify the design. McLaren has agreed to make minor adjustments to the wing, starting from the Baku Grand Prix. The team expects the FIA to have similar conversations with other teams regarding the compliance of their rear wings. Red Bull has been informed that McLaren's rear wing complies with the rules, while Ferrari's boss Fred Vasseur has described the controversy as a 'black and white' matter. Zak Brown, McLaren's CEO, stated that the wing has passed every single test. The controversy was highlighted during the Singapore GP, and McLaren insists it is not the only team under scrutiny for flexi rear wings.
