FDA, CDC Declare McDonald's E. coli Outbreak Over; 104 Sickened Across 14 States
Dec 3, 2024, 10:02 PM
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have closed their investigation into an E. coli outbreak linked to slivered onions served on McDonald's Quarter Pounder hamburgers. The outbreak, first reported on October 22, sickened 104 people across 14 states, resulting in 34 hospitalizations and one death. The onions, supplied by a California-based company, were recalled, and McDonald's temporarily paused sales of the Quarter Pounder in affected states. The FDA stated that the problem did not affect products outside the U.S., and the recalled onions are now past their shelf-life, eliminating the ongoing risk to the public.
