House Ethics Report Finds Substantial Evidence Matt Gaetz Paid for Sex with Minor, Used Drugs in Office
Dec 23, 2024, 12:32 PM
Former Congressman Matt Gaetz is the subject of a House Ethics Committee report that alleges he paid women, including a 17-year-old girl, for sex and used illicit drugs, including cocaine and ecstasy, while in office, sometimes from his Capitol Hill office. The committee determined there is substantial evidence that Gaetz violated House rules and standards prohibiting prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, impermissible gifts, special favors or privileges, and obstruction of Congress. The report indicates that Gaetz paid tens of thousands of dollars for sex or drugs on at least 20 occasions, including paying a 17-year-old girl in 2017. CBS News has obtained a final draft of the report, which the House Ethics Committee is expected to release on Monday, following a quiet vote to make the findings public. Gaetz has denied the allegations.
