Mexico Sends Over 70 Firefighters to Los Angeles as Wildfires Kill 10 and Leave 13 Missing
Jan 11, 2025, 06:56 PM
Mexico has sent a team of over 70 firefighters and military specialists to Los Angeles to assist in battling the wildfires that have devastated parts of the city, resulting in at least 10 deaths and 13 missing persons. The fires have destroyed 10,000 structures and scorched 145 square kilometers. President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that firefighters from the National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR), the Civil Relief Corps, and the Mexican Army (SEDENA) were dispatched, stating, "We are a generous and supportive country." The Mexican delegation arrived at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on January 11, 2025, aboard military aircraft. California Governor Gavin Newsom expressed gratitude to President Sheinbaum for Mexico's support, saying, "California is immensely grateful to our neighbors' support." The Mexican firefighters will join more than 14,000 personnel already fighting the fires, including the Eaton Fire and Palisades Fire.
