Researchers Discover 19 Million Tons of Lithium in Arkansas, Critical for Batteries
Oct 22, 2024, 10:15 AM
Researchers have announced the discovery of a significant lithium deposit in Arkansas, estimated to contain between 5 million to 19 million tons of the critical raw material. This lithium is found in the Smackover Formation, an underground brine reservoir. The discovery is significant as lithium is essential for electric vehicle (EV) batteries and other rechargeable products. The amount found, 19 million tons, is more than enough to meet global demand, potentially alleviating future supply constraints. Exxon Mobil is among the companies developing projects to extract lithium from this reservoir.
