Lin Yu-Ting Wins Olympics Boxing Match by Unanimous Decision After Gender Test Controversy
Aug 2, 2024, 01:59 PM
Lin Yu-Ting of Taiwan won all three rounds, two unanimously, against Uzbekistan’s Sitora Turdibekova in women’s Olympics boxing. Lin had previously failed a biochemical test at the 2023 world championships organized by a governing body in dispute with the IOC. Despite this, Lin was cleared to compete in the women's event at the Paris 2024 Olympics. This victory marks Lin as the second boxer to win a bout in Paris 2024 after failing a different competition's gender test. Lin was previously barred from the 2023 women’s boxing World Championship for having male XY chromosomes. The match ended with Turdibekova leaving the ring in tears.
