LaMonica McIver Wins NJ-10 Special Election by 65.2 Points
Sep 19, 2024, 12:59 AM
Democrat LaMonica McIver has won the special election for New Jersey's 10th Congressional District, filling the seat left vacant by the late Rep. Donald Payne Jr. McIver, who is the Newark Council President, secured the victory with a significant lead over her Republican opponent, Carmen Bucco. Early and mail-in votes showed McIver leading with 87% to Bucco's 9%, and as more votes were counted, her lead remained strong. The district, which Joe Biden won by 62.5 points in 2020, saw McIver winning by 65.2 points. This election marks McIver as the eighth Congresswoman in New Jersey's history. The majority of precincts in Essex, Union, and Hudson counties have reported their results, with McIver maintaining a substantial lead throughout. The Associated Press called the race at 8:07 pm ET, and Decision Desk HQ also projected McIver's victory.
