Mbappé Not Questioned as Swedish Prosecutors Close Rape Case Due to Insufficient Evidence
Dec 12, 2024, 10:00 AM
Swedish prosecutors have closed an investigation into an alleged rape involving French footballer Kylian Mbappé due to insufficient evidence. The prosecutor in Stockholm, Maria Chirakova, announced on December 12, 2024, that the evidence was not sufficient to proceed with the investigation, stating: "I believe the evidence is not sufficient to proceed with the investigation, which is therefore closed." Mbappé, who plays for Real Madrid, had been linked to the case by Swedish media, but the authorities had not officially confirmed his involvement. The forward was not questioned by Swedish authorities during the investigation. The prosecution noted that while a person was under "reasonable suspicion" of rape and two instances of sexual harassment were identified, the evidence was insufficient to continue. The investigation began after a woman in Stockholm filed a complaint in October during Mbappé's visit to the city.
