Kyle Larson Finishes 18th in Indy 500, Joins Coca-Cola 600 in 13th Amid Weather Delays, Awaits NASCAR Waiver
May 26, 2024, 08:07 PM
Kyle Larson attempted to complete the 'Double' by racing in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. Severe weather caused significant delays, impacting his plans. Despite the rain, Larson decided to stay at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to compete in the Indy 500, where he finished 18th. Justin Allgaier was on standby to start the Coca-Cola 600 for Larson. After completing the Indy 500, Larson flew to Charlotte to join the Coca-Cola 600, arriving at Concord airport at approximately 9:12 p.m. ET. The Coca-Cola 600 also experienced rain delays, but Larson managed to get into the No. 5 car, which Allgaier had driven to 13th place. NASCAR is expected to grant Larson a waiver for missing the start of the Coca-Cola 600, ensuring his playoff eligibility. Hendrick Motorsports, including Jeff Gordon and Rick Hendrick, supported Larson's bid. The race had 150 laps to go when Larson joined.
