Keir Starmer Re-Elected as MP for Holborn and St Pancras with 21% Majority, 17% Reduction
Jul 5, 2024, 02:04 AM
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has been re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Holborn and St Pancras in north London. Despite securing his seat, Starmer's majority has significantly reduced, with his vote count halving from 36,000 in 2019 to 18,000. The turnout for the election also saw a decline from 65% to 54%. Independent candidate Andrew Feinstein, who ran on a pro-Gaza platform, came in second with over 7,000 votes, marking an 18% swing from Labour to the independent candidate. Starmer's support saw a 17% reduction, resulting in a 21% majority. In his victory speech, Starmer emphasized that the people have voted for change and promised a return to politics as public service under Labour. He acknowledged the reduced support but reiterated his commitment to serving all constituents.
