Katie Ledecky Wins 9th Gold, Makes History with 14th Olympic Medal in 800m Freestyle
Aug 3, 2024, 07:51 PM
Katie Ledecky has made history at the 2024 Paris Olympics, becoming the most decorated female swimmer of all time with 14 Olympic medals. She achieved this milestone by winning her 13th medal in the women's 4x200-meter freestyle relay, where the U.S. team secured a second-place finish behind Australia. Ledecky then went on to win her fourth consecutive gold medal in the women's 800-meter freestyle, finishing with a time of 8:11.04. This victory marked her ninth career Olympic gold medal, tying her with Larisa Latynina for the most Olympic gold medals by a female athlete in any sport. Ledecky also became the first woman to win four gold medals in the same individual event at four consecutive Olympics. Fellow American Paige Madden took bronze in the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 8:13.00, while Australian Ariarne Titmus claimed silver with a time of 8:12.29.
