Kartik Kansal, Scientist with Muscular Dystrophy, Denied Service Despite Clearing Civil Services Exam Four Times
Jul 22, 2024, 03:29 AM
A 28-year-old scientist, Kartik Kansal, suffering from muscular dystrophy, who cleared the Civil Services Examination four times, has moved the Central Administrative Tribunal after the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) declined to allocate any service to him. The case has sparked a row amid allegations against trainee IAS officer Puja Khedkar for allegedly misusing the disability quota. Senior Telangana IAS officer Smita Sabharwal has further fueled the controversy by questioning the need for disability quotas in All India Services. Kansal, who did not use a scribe despite his condition and trained to write himself, has not received a posting for five years. Sanjeev Gupta, a retired IAS officer, highlighted Kansal's perseverance and criticized the system for failing him.
