Chiefs Release WR Kadarius Toney and Justyn Ross Amid Roster Changes
Aug 27, 2024, 05:38 PM
The Kansas City Chiefs have decided to release wide receiver Kadarius Toney, as confirmed by multiple reports. Toney, a former first-round pick, spent a year and a half with the Chiefs and earned two Super Bowl rings during his tenure. Despite his talent, the Chiefs were unable to find a trade partner for Toney, leading to his release. This decision comes as the team opts to keep seven wide receivers on their initial roster, including the return of JuJu Smith-Schuster. Toney must pass through waivers, and if claimed by another team, that team will assume his $2.53 million salary for 2024. If unclaimed, the Chiefs will incur the cap hit. The release of Toney, along with former rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit and Justyn Ross, reflects the Chiefs' roster adjustments ahead of the season.
