Justin Sun Eats $6.2 Million 'Comedian' Banana Artwork by Maurizio Cattelan
Nov 29, 2024, 11:52 AM
Justin Sun, founder of the Tron blockchain platform, fulfilled a promise by eating the $6.2 million artwork he purchased—a banana duct-taped to a wall—during a live event at The Peninsula Hong Kong hotel. The artwork, titled 'Comedian' by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, was bought by Sun at a Sotheby's auction in New York. Sun described the banana as 'iconic' and said, 'It's much better than other bananas.' He plans to purchase 100,000 bananas from Shah Alam, the 74-year-old fruit vendor who sold the original banana for 35 cents in front of Sotheby's. The artwork has garnered global attention, highlighting the intersection between contemporary art and the crypto industry.
