Sinaloa Cartel Leaders 'El Mayo' Zambada and El Chapo's Son Arrested in Texas and New Mexico
Jul 26, 2024, 01:13 AM
U.S. authorities have arrested two top leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel, Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada and Joaquin Guzman Lopez, son of the infamous 'El Chapo.' The arrests took place at a private airport in El Paso, Texas, and Santa Teresa, New Mexico. The operation, which involved the FBI and DEA, was reportedly in the works for months. Both Zambada and Lopez face multiple charges related to their roles in the cartel's vast drug trafficking operations, including the fentanyl crisis in the United States. A reward of $15 million had been offered for Zambada's capture. The plane carrying them reportedly came from Hermosillo, Sonora. Attorney General Merrick B. Garland confirmed the arrests and highlighted the significance of this operation in combating transnational drug trafficking.
