China Gradually Prepares to Lift Ban on Japanese Seafood Imports After Fukushima
Sep 20, 2024, 06:44 AM
China is preparing to lift its ban on Japanese seafood imports, which was imposed last year in response to the Fukushima water release. The decision comes as Japan and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) agree to allow third-party countries to join monitoring activities on the water discharge. Japanese Prime Minister Kishida has stated that China will start the process to ease restrictions based on additional monitoring results. The Japanese Foreign Ministry confirmed that China has agreed to gradually return to previous levels of marine imports for products that meet Chinese regulations. NHK says the move is based on scientific evidence and is seen as a significant step towards resuming full trade relations between the two countries.
