Patriots Captain Jabrill Peppers Arrested on Assault, Strangulation, and Cocaine Charges
Oct 7, 2024, 01:37 PM
New England Patriots safety and team captain Jabrill Peppers was arrested early Saturday morning in Braintree, Massachusetts, on multiple charges including assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, and possession of a Class B substance, specifically cocaine. The 29-year-old player was involved in an altercation with a woman who alleged that after they had sex, they argued about someone who called her, leading to a violent confrontation. The woman told police that Peppers put his hand on her neck, smashed her head against a wall, and pushed her down the stairs. Peppers denies the allegations, stating that he did not choke her, hit her head against the wall, or throw her down the stairs. His lawyer claims there is video and other evidence that contradicts the woman's complaint. Peppers pleaded not guilty in Quincy District Court on Monday morning and was ordered to stay away from the alleged victim. The case has been continued to November 22, with his appearance waived. Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo acknowledged the incident, stating, "He called me that morning. I knew what was going on." He added that Peppers informed him of the situation and that the team has notified the NFL. "We're still gathering information," Mayo said. "He can definitely be in the building. We don't know enough to say he shouldn't be in the building." Peppers will not be in the facility today due to his court appearance. The NFL stated that they are aware of the matter and have been in contact with the team but have no further comment at this time.
