IAF Strike in Nuseirat Camp Kills PIJ Commander and Al Jazeera Cameraman
Dec 15, 2024, 07:20 PM
The Israeli Air Force (IAF) conducted a targeted strike in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, aimed at a command and control center used by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists. The strike resulted in the death of Ahmed Bakr al-Lawh, identified by the IDF as a platoon commander in the Islamic Jihad's Central Camps Brigade. Al Jazeera, however, claimed that al-Lawh was one of its journalists, a cameraman, who was killed while wearing a press vest and helmet. The attack also killed five Palestinian Civil Defense workers, according to Al Jazeera. The IDF stated that the command center was embedded in the offices of the Civil Defense organization, which was being used to plan and execute attacks against Israeli soldiers. The Israeli military emphasized that steps were taken to minimize civilian casualties, including the use of precise munitions and aerial surveillance. This incident adds to the ongoing tension between Israel and Al Jazeera, with Israel having previously accused the network's journalists of being involved with terrorist activities, a claim Al Jazeera has consistently denied.
