Israel Signs NIS 2 Billion Deal to Expand 'Iron Beam' Laser Defense System, Operational Within a Year

The Israeli Defense Ministry has signed an agreement valued at around NIS two billion (~$534 million) to significantly expand its acquisition of the 'Iron Beam' laser interception systems. The contract involves Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Elbit Systems as the main developers. The 'Iron Beam', also known as 'Magen Or', is a high-powered laser defense system designed to intercept drones and other aerial threats. The system is expected to become operational within a year, according to the director general of the Defense Ministry. The expansion aims to better defend against drones and significantly boost production rates to ensure timely delivery.
