Mona McSharry has made history by winning a bronze medal in the women's 100m breaststroke at the Paris 2024 Olympics. This marks Ireland's first medal of the games and the first medal in any women's swimming event for Ireland since 1996. McSharry, a former Junior World Champion and European Junior Champion, broke the Irish record to reach the final. Her victory was achieved by a margin of one-hundredth of a second at the packed La Defense Arena. McSharry, who expressed that 'dreams do come true,' is now an Olympic bronze medalist.
