Iran's Uranium Stockpile Grows 16% to Near Weapons-Grade Levels, IAEA Reports
Aug 29, 2024, 03:40 PM
Iran has increased its stockpile of uranium enriched to near weapons-grade levels, according to reports from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The IAEA's latest findings reveal that Iran's highly-enriched uranium stockpile has grown by 16% over the last three months. The total stock of enriched uranium is now estimated at 5,751.8 kilograms as of August 17, after a reduction of 449.5 kilograms since the last quarterly report. The IAEA also noted that Iran's stock of uranium enriched to up to 20% has increased by 62.6 kilograms to a total of 813.9 kilograms. This development comes despite international demands for Iran to limit its nuclear activities, raising concerns about potential regional tensions. The IAEA report was sent to member states and seen by Reuters.
