Taliban's Khalid Hanafi Bans Women from Speaking to Each Other in Daikundi
Oct 27, 2024, 08:14 AM
The Taliban's Minister for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, Khalid Hanafi, has declared that it is forbidden for adult women to allow their voices to be heard by other adult women. Citing Clause 3 of Article 13 of the Taliban’s law on Vice and Virtue, this new restriction is part of the Taliban's broader 'morality law' aimed at enforcing strict gender segregation and limiting women's participation in public life. The directive has been implemented in the central province of Daikundi, where public employees are being instructed on the new law. This latest rule adds to a series of restrictions on Afghan women, including bans on education, employment, travel, public spaces, and sports.
