Intel to Spin Off Intel Capital Into Standalone Fund in 2025, Retaining Anchor Investor Role
Jan 14, 2025, 09:48 PM
Intel Corp. has announced plans to spin off its venture capital arm, Intel Capital, into a standalone investment fund. The move is intended to align Intel Capital's corporate structure with other leading venture firms, providing it with greater autonomy and the ability to attract external capital. Intel will remain an anchor investor in the new fund, which is expected to begin standalone operations in the second half of 2025 under a new name. David Zinsner, Intel's interim co-CEO and CFO, stated that the separation is a 'win-win scenario' as it provides the fund with access to new sources of capital while allowing both companies to continue benefiting from a productive long-term strategic partnership. Intel Capital, established in 1991, has over $5 billion in assets under management and has invested in more than 1,800 companies across four key areas: silicon, frontier, devices, and cloud, deploying over $20 billion in capital. The firm has created over $170 billion in market value in the past decade. The separation is seen as a strategic move to maximize the value of Intel's assets while enhancing focus and efficiency across its business.
