India Receives Citation from WHO SEARO for Eliminating Trachoma in 2024
Oct 8, 2024, 07:04 PM
India has received a citation from the World Health Organization South-East Asia Regional Office (WHO SEARO) for eliminating trachoma as a public health problem in 2024. This recognition was awarded during the 77th Regional Conference (RC77) and was received by Smt. Aradhana Patnaik, Additional Secretary and Mission Director of the National Health Mission at the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. Trachoma is a neglected tropical disease and the leading infectious cause of blindness globally. India is now the third country in the South-East Asia Region to achieve this milestone. The WHO declaration and citation mark a significant public health achievement for India. The efforts of health workers, communities, the government, and partners, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, were instrumental in this success.
