OpenAI Co-Founder Ilya Sutskever Departs, Jakub Pachocki Named Chief Scientist
May 15, 2024, 12:46 AM
OpenAI co-founder and chief scientist Ilya Sutskever has announced his departure from the San Francisco-based company after 9 years. Sutskever, who played a significant role in the development of OpenAI's artificial intelligence technologies, is leaving to pursue a new, personally meaningful project. His departure comes after a tumultuous period at OpenAI, including a failed attempt to oust CEO Sam Altman in November. Jakub Pachocki, who has been serving as the director of research, will replace Sutskever as the new chief scientist. Additionally, Jan Leike, who worked closely with Sutskever on AI safety, has also resigned from the company.
