US Prosecutors Seek 5-Year Sentence for Ilya Lichtenstein, Mastermind of $6 Billion Bitfinex Hack
Oct 16, 2024, 04:53 AM
US prosecutors have recommended a five-year prison sentence for Ilya "Dutch" Lichtenstein, the mastermind behind the 2016 Bitfinex hack, which resulted in the theft of $6 billion in cryptocurrency. Lichtenstein and his wife, Heather Morgan, also known as "Razzlekhan," were involved in a money-laundering conspiracy to clean the stolen crypto. While Lichtenstein faces a five-year sentence, Morgan may spend just 18 months in prison for her role in the crime. The sentencing is expected to take place in November.
