Dodgers Sign Korean Infielder Hyeseong Kim to Potential $22M Deal, Outbidding Angels
Jan 3, 2025, 07:57 PM
The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to a three-year contract with Korean infielder Hyeseong Kim, with a guaranteed $12.5 million and a two-year option for the 2028-29 seasons that could increase the total value to $22 million if exercised together. Kim, 25, is coming off a strong season in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), where he hit .326 with 30 stolen bases for the Kiwoom Heroes. Known for his versatility, he has primarily played second base but also has experience at shortstop. The Dodgers plan to utilize him in a super-utility role. The team secured his signing shortly before his posting deadline, reportedly surpassing an offer from the Los Angeles Angels, who had proposed a five-year, $28 million deal. Manager Dave Roberts had praised Kim's abilities after the Dodgers faced the Korean national team in an exhibition game in Seoul in March 2024. Additionally, Kim met with Shohei Ohtani, a fellow CAA client, who provided him with advice during his transition to Major League Baseball.
