IRGC Commander Abbas Nilforoushan Reportedly Killed in Israeli Airstrike on Hezbollah Bunker in Beirut
Sep 28, 2024, 11:50 AM
Reports indicate that Brigadier General Abbas Nilforoushan, the Deputy Commander of Operations for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Acting Commander of Quds Force Operations in Syria and Lebanon, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on a Hezbollah command bunker in Beirut. Nilforoushan, who had recently taken over from the late Mohammad Reza Zahedi, was reportedly in a meeting with Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah at the time of the attack. The airstrike targeted the southern suburbs of Beirut, an area known for its Hezbollah presence. This incident marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. The reports were initially circulated by Kayhan newspaper and later confirmed by Axios and IRGC-affiliated Telegram channels. Nilforoushan was also overseeing the IRGC-QF's Department 2000.
