Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences Eliminates Diversity Statement Requirement, Introduces Service Statement
Jun 3, 2024, 04:03 PM
Harvard University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences has announced the elimination of the requirement for applicants to submit a diversity statement when applying for tenure-track positions. Instead, applicants are now asked to provide a 'service statement' detailing their efforts to strengthen academic communities, such as their department, institution, and professional societies. This policy change, communicated in an email sent today, reverses a mandate instituted by Claudine Gay, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, which required diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) statements.
