Jul 27, 2024, 06:43 PM
Gretchen Walsh set a new Olympic record in the women's 100m butterfly semifinals at the Paris Olympics with a time of 55.38 seconds. This performance is the third-fastest time in history and just 0.20 seconds off her own world record. Walsh's time also makes her the holder of the three fastest times ever in this event. She won the first semifinal, with Angelina Koehler finishing second and Mizuki Hirai third. Walsh and fellow American swimmer Torri Huske, who won her semifinal heat with a time of 56.00 seconds, will be the top two seeds heading into the final on Sunday night. Walsh broke Sarah Sjostrom’s previous Olympic record.
