EUIPO Cancels 'Turkaegean' Trademark Registered by Turkish Tourism Organization on January 10, 2025, Marking Victory for Greece
Jan 10, 2025, 05:32 PM
The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has canceled the 'Turkaegean' trademark that was registered by the Turkish Tourism Organization for use within the EU. The decision, made on January 10, 2025, marks a victory for Greece, which had challenged the trademark since February 2023. The cancellation affects the trademark's use in six specific uses: advertising, media, transport services, education, hotels and restaurants, and legal services. Greece's Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos stated that the decision reflects Greece's strong stance on the international stage in defending its commercial interests. Turkey has two months to appeal the decision and four months to provide written reasons for the appeal.
